Congressman Bishop Supports Funding to Fight Coronavirus

March 5, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dan Bishop (NC-09) voted ‘yes' on critical funding to fight the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

"COVID-19 is spreading globally with cases in over a dozen states, including North Carolina. The Trump Administration continues to take decisive action to slow the spread, but addressing this public health emergency fully requires funding," said Rep. Bishop. "As the nation most prepared to handle this crisis, we have a responsibility to ensure that we are equipped to not only prevent the spread domestically, but to explore rapid solutions. While I had concerns about the large bill given America's increasing debt, I ultimately supported this measure to ensure the health and safety of those in North Carolina's Ninth Congressional District. I am confident in the Administration's commitment to preventing the spread and support this bipartisan effort to combat COVID-19."

The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6074, the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. The bill provides more than $4 billion for diagnostic tests that are essential to preventing the spread, treatments for those infected, and investment in vaccines and necessary medical products. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is set to receive $2.2 billion for a robust response, including $1 billion exclusively for state and local response efforts.
