WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Dan Bishop (NC-09) led a group of six North Carolina Republicans in sending a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressing concerns about the exorbitant passport processing delays North Carolina residents are facing.

“The months-long delays to receive a passport are unacceptable. Our country is fully reopened, yet the government offices that handle these requests are not. My constituents are experiencing passport processing delays up to 18 weeks. This is unacceptable, but there’s a simple fix. Government officials that are crucial to this process must return to work. We need this fix to ensure North Carolina families no longer experience the complications and financial burdens related to canceled or delayed trips,” said Rep. Dan Bishop.

The State Department is responsible for handling and approving passport application requests. Secretary Blinken needs to provide a clear plan to tackle these delays and ensure families all across North Carolina are receiving timely service.
