Bishop Announces Workforce Development Grant for Lumbee Tribe
WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congressman Dan Bishop (NC-09) announced a $1.4 million award for the Lumbee Regional Development Association, Inc. through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Division of Indian and Native American Programs.
“I applaud the Administration for prioritizing Indian and Native American Development for the Lumbee Tribe in North Carolina. These grants will help the next generation of Lumbee thrive with bolstered workforce training and youth services for all age groups. While I continue to fight for the Lumbee’s rightful federal recognition, I am glad to see this investment of federal resources to promote economic opportunity in Lumbee communities” said Rep. Bishop.
The Department of Labor awarded $68 million to be distributed to 340 organizations and tribes for Comprehensive Services Program (CSP) and Supplemental Youth Services Program (SYSP) funding allotments for PY 2020 for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. The Lumbee Regional Development Association, Inc. in Robeson County received a total of $1,385,871.
