Bishop Announces Economic Development Administration Grant for Lumberton

February 11, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman Dan Bishop (NC-09) announced a U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to assist the City of Lumberton in combating flooding stemming from natural disasters.

"Providing disaster assistance in response to the devastating effects of Hurricanes Florence and Matthew has been a top priority of mine since I arrived in Washington," said Congressman Dan Bishop. "This Economic Development Administration grant moves the City of Lumberton and Robeson County one step closer to recovering from these devastating storms and will help bolster Lumberton's resilience against future disasters."

The EDA awarded the City of Lumberton a $3.13 million grant, which will pave the way for the city to install two permanent floodgates at the abutments of the I-95 bridge, which will help prevent future flooding from the Lumber River. Lumberton will match this federal grant with $1 million in local investment. The project is expected to create 90 jobs, retain 323 jobs, and spur $4.2 million in private investment.
